The Amherstburg, / Essex County area is part of the northern border of the Carolinian forest. This area is home to some species that grow nowhere else in Canada and hosts over 700 plant species. It is often said ".. if it doesn't grow here, it doesn't grow anywhere else in Canada!"
Our shorelines, marshes, forests, open areas and temperate climate, offer a wonderful environment for a wide range of animals, butterflies,  birds, plant life and flowers.
Aside from all of the agricultural diversity, the waters of Lake Erie are a sports fisherman's dream. Pickerel (Walleye), Yellow and White Perch, Whitefish, Smelt,  Bluegill and more can all be caught in the freshwater depths of Lake Erie. Many local fisheries also  sell fresh catches of the day.  Many local restaurants offer a catch of the day special.
